Course Description
The Energy Auditor Pre-Apprentice Program is designed to introduce students to the foundational skills and knowledge required for a career in energy auditing. This program provides hands-on experience and theoretical training in energy efficiency, building science, and the principles of home performance. The program serves as a stepping stone to advanced certifications and full apprenticeship opportunities in the energy auditing field.

What Students Will Learn
Students will learn how to conduct basic energy audits, assess building performance, and identify opportunities for energy conservation and earn three nationally recognized certificates:
Building Science Principles Certificate
The Building Science Principles Certificate course offers a comprehensive introduction to the key concepts of energy efficiency, air quality, and building performance. Students will explore the importance of energy auditing and retrofitting in improving indoor comfort, occupant health, and safety. This course also emphasizes the role of energy efficiency as a precursor to integrating renewable energy solutions like solar power. Completion of this course equips students with the foundational knowledge necessary for pursuing further certifications in the field of building science and energy auditing.
BPI Building Analyst Technician Training & Exam
Following the Building Science Principles Certificate, students can enroll in the BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) training. This course provides in-depth training on conducting residential diagnostic tests and collecting home performance data. Students will learn essential skills such as combustion safety testing, carbon monoxide detection, blower door testing, and detailed home inspections. The nationally recognized BPI BA-T Certification prepares students for advanced roles in the energy auditing industry.
BPI Building Analyst Professional Training & Exam
After completing the BPI Building Analyst Technician training, students can advance to the BPI Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) course. This training focuses on using energy modeling software to analyze a home's energy efficiency and develop actionable improvement plans. Students will learn to interpret diagnostic data and provide homeowners with strategies to lower energy consumption, reduce costs, and enhance indoor environmental quality. The BPI BA-P Certification is a nationally recognized credential that demonstrates a high level of expertise in energy auditing and home performance.
