4 Courses Required

This comprehensive 320-hour program will introduce students to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Topics include: Preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, the cardiac life cycles, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare, pharmacology, electrocardiography, and the use of an EKG machine with proper lead placement. This program includes taking the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam, which is a requisite for certificate completion.

Part 1: EKG Techniques (28 hours)

Part 2: Phlebotomy Techniques (64 hours)

Part 3: Clinical Techniques (68 hours)

Part 4: Externship (160 hours - full time schedule)

Prerequisites

  • Place into ENG 099/101 or above on the Workforce Development Placement Exam. This exam may be waived upon review of your college transcript.

  • Complete Medical forms with your Primary Care Provider and obtain medical clearance from CastleBranch.

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET certificate. Must be obtained by the last day of class.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. 

 

Registration

STEP 1 Collect your required documents (including the placement exam scores/ college transcript, immunization form, and physical exam form). 

 

STEP 2 Submit required forms via email to AlliedHealth@rcc.mass.edu with the following subject line: "First Name, Last Name: Program Name, Semester". Please note that all required documents must be included in one single email submission. Emails with incomplete and missing forms will not be considered to move forward. *This email address is not for inquiries. Only document submissions will be reviewed. 

Example of Subject Line: "Jane Smith: Medical Assistant, Spring 2026"

 

STEP 3 Applicants who have completed all the requirements will be invited to submit the application for the program (located on the Certificate page). Your application will be "In progress" until all your medical requirements are cleared.

 

STEP 4 The status of your application will be modified upon review. You will either receive an "Approved" or "In progress" status.

Please remember that there are three courses to be completed for the Medical Assistant program. You will need to register for the same schedule (morning or evening) for the Phlebotomy Techniques and Clinical Techniques courses.

  • CPR/AED Certification (must be completed before the completion of the classes).
