Course Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of electrical systems and building automation control devices, providing students with essential skills for working in the BAS field. The focus is on understanding and applying electrical principles, device classifications, and hands-on techniques.

Student Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the principles of AC and DC circuits and their applications in BAS.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in using electrical multimeters to measure circuit parameters.
  3. Apply electrical safety protocols while working with BAS control devices.
  4. Classify control devices as power, communication, input, output, or controller and describe their roles in BAS.
  5. Identify and wire standard BAS inputs, outputs, and devices like sensors, actuators, and relays.
  6. Interpret BAS product data sheets to inform installation and troubleshooting.
  7. Analyze and simplify series and parallel circuits to solve for resistance, current, and voltage.
  8. Implement effective wire management techniques, including stripping, terminating, routing, and labeling.
