Course Description

This 40-hour, hands-on course equips HVACR technicians with the knowledge and skills to install, commission, service, and troubleshoot today’s high-efficiency heat pump systems. Designed to keep you competitive in the rapidly expanding heat pump market, the program blends classroom instruction with practical lab work to ensure you can confidently tackle real-world jobs.

What You’ll Learn      

  • Heat Pump Fundamentals – Understand the principles of heat pump operation, including thermodynamic cycles and system-specific components.       
  • Installation Best Practices – Master site assessment, electrical and piping requirements, and optimal placement for both ducted and ductless (mini-split) systems.
  • Commissioning & Startup – Learn the step-by-step process for startup, verifying refrigerant charge, airflow, and control settings.      
  • Diagnostics & Repair – Identify and resolve issues such as refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, electrical faults, and control board problems.  
  • Refrigerant & Electrical Safety – Refresh essential safety protocols for handling modern refrigerants and working with electrical systems.

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • EPA 608 Certification
