Course Description

This course is a combination of Phlebotomy Technician training with a supplemental ESOL class.

Phlebotomy Bridge (90 hours)

This is a Phlebotomy Technician course designed for intermediate English language learners. Students will be using a combination of techniques to learn the basics and gain a foundational understanding of the Phlebotomy Technician profession. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam through NHA. Students will be able to perform a wide range of specimen collection in various healthcare settings, learn human anatomy and physiology, OSHA regulations, blood-borne pathogens, universal precautions, ethics, and applicable law. Students will develop the skills for various blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. They will familiarize themselves with test requirements, tube identification, procedures, and protocols for lab safety.

ESOL Supplement (30 hours)

This course is designed to support students taking the Phlebotomy Bridge portion by strengthening their English language skills. It focuses on language access and exam literacy, enabling students to accurately interpret written exam questions and documents in academic and clinical settings. It emphasizes reading comprehension, analysis of exam question structures, and controlled workplace writing.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: This program is funded by the Good Jobs grant for students who are eligible. Eligibility will be determined upon application review.

 

Registration

Students must have an approved ESOL Bridge to Phlebotomy Application in order to enroll in this course. Follow the instructions on the ESOL Bridge to Phlebotomy Certificate page to get started.
