Course Description

This 160-hour Medical Assistant Bridge course is specifically designed for intermediate English language learners. Students are introduced to the clinical responsibilities of a medical assistant, including preparing patients for examinations and treatments, performing routine laboratory procedures, assisting with diagnostic testing, understanding the cardiac cycle, healthcare ethics and legal issues, pharmacology, electrocardiography, and the proper use of an EKG machine.

The course includes three instructional components:

  • Introduction to Healthcare and Medical Terminology

  • Phlebotomy Techniques and Procedures

  • Clinical Techniques and Procedures

The program also prepares students to take the National Health career Association (NHA) certification exam, which is required for certificate completion.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites

  • Placement into ESOL Level 5 or higher through the Community ESOL Assessment.

  • Passed CSA 310 Medical Assistant ESOL

  • Completion of required medical documentation:

    • Physical Examination Form (within the past 12 months)

    • Immunization Form (within the past 6 months)

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET certificate.

  • U.S. work authorization.
