Course Description

The Building Science Principles Certificate course provides a foundational understanding of energy efficiency, air quality, and building performance. Students will learn how home systems—such as HVAC, insulation, ventilation, lighting, and appliances—affect energy use, indoor comfort, health, and safety. Emphasizing energy audits and retrofitting, the course highlights their role in enhancing building performance and integrating renewable energy solutions like solar power.

This course prepares students for the Building Science Principles Certification Exam by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and equips them for careers in smart building technology, energy auditing, facilities management, and weatherization. Ideal for those in real estate, construction, architecture, or engineering, it serves as a key entry point into the home performance industry.

BPI Certified Professionals can earn 6 BPI CEU credits by passing the BSP exam and uploading their BSP Certificate of Knowledge through BPI's CEU Account.
